COMIC BOOK REVIEW: SUPERMAN #11

“Superman vs Russians & Predators.”
SUPERMAN has been a hit or miss comic since the beginning with no clear distinction of why it keeps jumping between all these different villains constantly and this issue is no different with another bad guy revealed—-but it’s still interesting.
The issue starts with Superman heading to Russia to discover what has devastated nearby villages at the end of the previous issue. It was great to see Superman using his reporter detective skills and searching for answers while analyzing all possible leads for what has happened exactly.
The gist of it is that Russia is afraid of Superman. So after multiple failed attempts at creating their own version of him they’ve looked to other worlds and dimensions for a being to match up to America’s unbeatable weapon.
The result is an alien dimensional being that looks like a Predator.

I just don’t understand what this book is trying to do with its stories. He’s facing all these aliens that get axed in an issue or two only to move onto another story that lasts barely enough time for people to start caring about what the situation is even about to begin with.
This book has such great ideas that never seem to fulfill their potential. First Helspont, then Anguish now the concept of the Russians looking to other dimensions of reality for a version of their own Superman but instead releasing a creature upon their world that’s menacing is great. I just hope this time the story goes somewhere more than the other two do.
The issue ends with a weird statement from the creative team saying and I quote, “Continued in the next issue of Superman! Provided we still have one!” Well this is awkward. You end your issue of Superman basically saying there just might not be another one? Wow good on you guys.

This issue is just all over the place. It has good ideas and bad ideas and weird things happening and the creative team leaving no sense of hope in the continuation of a book they’ve seem to completely ruin.
Also the tag line for the issue is, “Secret of the suit revealed!” Yeah nothing is really revealed at all. Like literally nothing is revealed. Sigh.
SUPERMAN #11 is out now.
